Baking Cupcakes With Kids
Baking cupcakes with children is a fun filled activity for families or friends to enjoy. Whether preparing for a party or baking for a quick snack this activity is entertaining and easy to do.
For first time bakers it would be advisable to start with an easy recipe. The basic recipe is to mix butter, eggs, flour and sugar. It is important to remember that since cupcakes are smaller, they bake faster than most layer cakes.
While the oven is pre heating at 375F you can ask the kids to mix the ingredients in a bowl. You can assign them other menial tasks like lining the cupcake pans with paper liner. It is important to remember to keep the kids away from the oven lest they get burned. Scoop the cupcake batter using a spoon into the paper lined baking tin. You must remind the kids not to fill up the whole paper cup since the ingredients will expand as they bake. Pop the tin into the oven and bake for 18 to 20 minutes. Your finished cupcakes should be golden brown in color and springy to the touch.
You can top these cupcakes using ready made frosting or you and the kids can make one together from scratch. A basic frosting consists of butter, milk and sugar. You can opt to add some sprinkles on top or garnish it with fresh fruit. You can also finish off your cupcake by icing the kid’s names on top. This can serve as a delicious memento they can bring home to show mom and dad.
